Bordeaux Métropole is a French metropolis, located in the department of Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Second metropolis of common law by its population after that of Lille (the metropolises of Paris and Marseille being two metropolises with special status and that of Lyon being a local authority), Bordeaux Métropole groups together 28 municipalities (including 26 included in the agglomeration of Bordeaux, as well as those of Ambès and Saint-Louis-de-Montferrand), and had 814,049 inhabitants in 2019. It took over, on January 1, 2015, from the urban community of Bordeaux (CUB).
