The project, led by The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch non-profit organization, aims to empty half of the "Great Pacific Garbage Area" (GPGP) within five years, a floating trash can three times as big as France, halfway between California and Hawaii. This would represent “about 15,000 tonnes of plastic per year”
